Trump Orders US Navy to Immediately Blockade All Ships Entering or Leaving the Strait of Hormuz After Failed Peace Talks with Iran in Islamabad

Washington / Islamabad, April 12, 2026 — U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly ordered the U.S. Navy to immediately begin enforcing a blockade of vessels entering and leaving the Strait of Hormuz following the breakdown of diplomatic negotiations with Iran in Islamabad.

The move comes after high-level peace talks held in Islamabad involving U.S. and Iranian delegations ended without agreement. According to officials familiar with the discussions, the central points of contention included Iran’s nuclear program and maritime control arrangements in the strategic waterway.

The talks, led on the U.S. side by Vice President JD Vance, reportedly collapsed after Iran refused to accept Washington’s proposed terms, prompting an abrupt escalation in U.S. posture toward the Gulf region.

Following the failure of negotiations, President Trump directed U.S. naval forces to begin intercepting and monitoring commercial shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transit routes. The strait connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea and handles a significant share of global oil exports.

Iranian officials in Tehran have condemned the reported blockade order, calling it an act of aggression and warning of potential consequences for regional stability. No formal military response has been confirmed.

Military analysts say the directive could mark a major escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran, with potential implications for global energy markets and maritime security. Any sustained disruption in the Strait of Hormuz is expected to have immediate effects on oil prices and international shipping.

As of now, neither the White House nor the Pentagon has released detailed operational timelines for the blockade, and the situation remains highly fluid.
