BOOM!! Rep. Ilhan Omar did not hold back when asked during her first appearance after last night’s attack about who she blames.
Minneapolis, MN – January 29, 2026 – In her first public appearance since being assaulted at a town hall event the previous evening, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) delivered a fiery response when asked who she holds responsible for the incident.
During a press conference at Karmel Mall, the congresswoman did not mince words, pointing directly to President Donald Trump’s repeated use of inflammatory language against her and the Somali-American community she represents.
“Every time the president of the United States has chosen to use hateful rhetoric to talk about me and the community that I represent, my death threats skyrocket,” Omar stated firmly.
She added that the pattern has forced her to increase security measures, stating, “I do believe that the facts of the situation are that I wouldn’t be where I am at today, having to pay for security… if Donald Trump wasn’t in office.”
The attack occurred Tuesday night when a 55-year-old man, identified as Anthony Kazmierczak, rushed the stage and sprayed her with a strong-smelling liquid (later reported as apple cider vinegar) from a syringe.
Security quickly intervened, and the suspect was arrested on charges of third-degree assault. Reports indicate the man had posted pro-Trump content online and expressed frustration related to immigration policies.
REP OMAR: “I wouldn’t be where I am at today — having to pay for security, having the government to think about providing me security — if Donald Trump wasn’t in office and if he wasn’t so obsessed with me.”

Omar, who continued the town hall after the incident, emphasized her resilience: “Fear and intimidation doesn’t work on me. I don’t let bullies win.”
She also addressed Trump’s claim that the event might have been staged, calling him “obsessed” with her and questioning inconsistencies in his statements.
The assault has drawn widespread condemnation from Democrats, with some Republicans also denouncing political violence. It highlights ongoing tensions around rhetoric and immigration debates in the current administration.
Omar concluded by reaffirming her commitment to public service despite the risks, vowing that such incidents will not deter her from speaking out.
