Former President Donald Trump fired back sharply on Tuesday after former Rep. Liz Cheney reignited her criticism of GOP lawmakers, warning them that their continued loyalty to Trump would stain their political legacies.
Cheney’s message — “One day, Donald Trump will be gone, but your dishonor will remain” — resurfaced widely after she reiterated it during a recent interview addressing the state of the Republican Party.
Trump wasted no time responding. In a post shared overnight, he blasted Cheney as a “TRAITOR!” and accused her of “lying to the American people” while “pretending to protect democracy.”
He went on to claim that Cheney’s repeated warnings about him only proved her “obsession” and argued that Republicans who support him “are defending America, not the swamp.”
The exchange marks yet another clash in the long-running feud between Trump and Cheney, whose outspoken opposition to him — particularly over January 6 — cost her her House seat and elevated her as one of the former president’s most prominent conservative critics.
Republicans on Capitol Hill have largely remained silent in response to the renewed spat, underscoring the continued divide within the party as Trump’s influence remains firmly intact heading into the next election cycle.
