In a deeply somber moment for the United States and the world, former U.S. President George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, has passed away at the age of 79.

The Bush family confirmed his death in an official statement released just over an hour ago, stating that the former president died peacefully at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, surrounded by loved ones.

The cause of death has been confirmed as complications related to Parkinson’s disease, a condition Bush had been privately battling for several years. According to family sources, his health had been declining significantly in recent months.

> “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather,” the statement from the Bush family read.

“George W. Bush led a life of public service, faith, and deep love for his country. He passed peacefully, and we are comforted knowing he is reunited with loved ones who went before him.”

Born on July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, George Walker Bush served as President of the United States from 2001 to 2009, leading the nation through one of its most challenging periods following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

His presidency was defined by the global War on Terror, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as significant domestic policies including tax cuts and education reform.

Prior to his presidency, Bush served as the Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. He was the eldest son of former President George H.W. Bush, making them one of only two father-son presidential duos in U.S. history.

President Joe Biden released a statement shortly after the news broke, calling Bush “a steady leader in uncertain times” and “a man of conviction and compassion.”

Flags at all federal buildings and military installations will be flown at half-staff for the remainder of the week in his honor.

Former President Barack Obama also paid tribute, saying, “George and I may have had our differences politically, but I always respected his deep patriotism, love for his family, and his commitment to serving this country.”

George W. Bush is survived by his wife Laura Bush, daughters Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Bush Hager, and several grandchildren.

A state funeral is expected to take place in Washington, D.C., with world leaders, former presidents, and dignitaries expected to attend.

The Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas, Texas, will be opening a memorial garden to honor his legacy and give the public an opportunity to pay their respects.

As America mourns the loss of a former Commander-in-Chief, tributes are pouring in from across the globe, remembering a president who led with resilience in times of national grief and uncertainty.
