JUST IN: Former President Joe Biden calls for “all of America” to “stand up and speak out” against President Trump.
In a strongly worded statement posted on social media today, former President Joe Biden called on “all of America” to “stand up and speak out” against what he described as actions by the current administration that betray core American values.
The remarks come amid escalating protests in Minneapolis following the fatal shootings of two American citizens—Renee Good on January 7 and ICU nurse Alex Pretti on January 24—by federal immigration agents during ongoing enforcement operations.
Biden praised Minnesotans for their response, saying they have “stood strong” by aiding community members, condemning injustice, and demanding government accountability.
“No single person can destroy what America stands for and believes in, not even a President, if we — all of America — stand up and speak out,” Biden wrote. “We know who we are. It’s time to show the world. More importantly, it’s time to show ourselves.”
Without directly naming President Donald Trump, the former president condemned what he called “violence and terror” by the government targeting citizens, violations of constitutional rights including the Fourth Amendment, and the brutalization of neighbors.
He described the events in Minneapolis as a betrayal of basic American principles and demanded “full, fair, and transparent investigations” into the deaths.
Biden’s intervention marks one of his most direct public criticisms of the Trump administration since leaving office in January 2025.
It echoes statements from other former Democratic presidents, including Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, who have also condemned the immigration crackdown in Minnesota.
The White House has not immediately responded to Biden’s statement. Federal authorities continue to investigate the incidents, with some Republican lawmakers calling for impartial probes into the actions of ICE and Border Patrol.
As protests spread and tensions rise over immigration enforcement, Biden’s call for collective action highlights deepening political divisions in the early months of Trump’s second term.
