Abbas Araghchi States Donald Trump Sought Negotiations Following Unmet War Goals, as Tehran Balances Diplomacy with Deepening Moscow Partnership

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump is now seeking negotiations after failing to achieve key objectives in the recent conflict with Tehran.

Araghchi made the remarks while speaking during an official visit to Russia, where he emphasized that the request for talks originated from Washington, not Tehran. According to him, the shift reflects what Iran sees as shortcomings in U.S. strategy following weeks of military escalation and regional instability.

He noted that Iran is reviewing the proposal carefully and has not committed to entering negotiations. Tehran, he said, will only consider talks that align with its national interests and will not engage under pressure or coercion.

The development comes as tensions remain high despite a fragile ceasefire. Key disputes—including Iran’s nuclear program, regional influence, and control over strategic waterways like the Strait of Hormuz—remain unresolved.

At the same time, Iran is deepening its relationship with Vladimir Putin and Moscow. Officials in both countries have signaled stronger cooperation, highlighting a growing alliance amid ongoing tensions with the United States.

While Washington’s reported outreach may suggest a shift toward diplomacy, significant divisions persist between both sides, making the prospects for immediate progress uncertain.
