Harvey Weinstein diagnosed with leukemia while serving prison sentence

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced former Hollywood producer, has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, according to two sources who spoke to NBC News.

Weinstein, who is currently incarcerated at Rikers Island in New York, is undergoing treatment for the rare form of bone marrow cancer, as confirmed by his legal health care representative, Craig Rothfeld.

Rothfeld stated, “Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment.”

Weinstein’s health has been a subject of concern in recent months.

In September, he underwent emergency heart surgery to drain fluid from his lungs and heart.

Earlier in July, Weinstein was hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia.

Weinstein’s legal challenges continue as he battles Manhattan prosecutors who are attempting to combine his 2020 sexual crimes charges with a new criminal indictment.

Although his 2020 New York conviction was overturned earlier this year due to prejudicial rulings by the trial judge, Weinstein remains behind bars, serving a 16-year sentence after being convicted of rape in Los Angeles in 2022.

His legal team is currently appealing that conviction.

Weinstein was a central figure in the #MeToo movement, which exposed widespread sexual misconduct in Hollywood, leading to his downfall.
