Miley Cyrus Makes Rare Reference to Ex-Husband Liam Hemsworth in New Interview
Though Miley Cyrus is very forthright about so many aspects of her life, one topic she’s been relatively quiet about is her former marriage to and divorce from actor Liam Hemsworth.
The two dated on and off for over a decade and married in 2018 and split in 2019, ultimately divorcing in 2020.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Cyrus very briefly mentioned her relationship with Hemsworth in a positive light.
While discussing her upcoming album, Something Beautiful, which she made in part with her current boyfriend Maxx Morando, Cyrus opened up about her experience working with loved ones including family members and romantic partners.
“I worked with my dad forever. That’s how me and my ex-husband met each other,” Cyrus said. “I’ve always worked with the people that I love.
And Maxx just inspires me so much.” A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it mention, to be sure, but clearly a meaningful one.
In 2023, Miley Cyrus also shared the moment she knew her marriage to Hemsworth was over.
The mention came as part of her TikTok interview series tied to her song “Used to Be Young,” where she revisited her entire career.
“I just want to slow down because this is actually serious,” she shared, referencing her June 2019 performance at Glastonbury Festival in the UK.
“The day of the [Glastonbury] show was the day I had decided it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship.”
In that interview, she also addressed their relationship and marriage, which happened shortly after their home was destroyed in the Malibu fires of 2018.
“Me and Liam’s commitment to being married,” she said, “Of course came from a place of love first because we had been together for 10 years, but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could.”
